About Sumifuda Tarot

Sumifuda means cards written in ink. Each of the 22 Major Arcana carries one kanji, drawn in brush lettering inside a brushed ink circle, on a deck made for this site. The numbers and meanings follow the Waite deck from the early twentieth century.

Each card's meaning was written for this site from traditional interpretations, including the Waite and Marseille decks. A reversed card is read as its energy held inside and is never used to predict misfortune.

The spreads and position meanings for each topic were set around the questions people most often ask about love, work and the future.

The readings are written by an OpenAI language model. The cards are calculated from your birth date, the topic and the date, and the AI only reads that spread. It receives our writing rules and the details of the cards, nothing more. The full picture is in how AI tarot works.
