The Fool, numbered zero, stands at the start of the Major Arcana story. In the classic image a traveler with a small bundle over one shoulder walks lightly along the edge of a cliff. It is the card of freedom before anything has been decided, and on our deck it carries the kanji 愚.

The Fool upright meaning
Upright, the Fool is a beginning led by curiosity more than planning. You can step toward something unfamiliar without knowing how it ends. Because you are not fixed on the outcome, unexpected meetings and discoveries find you.
Being number zero, it has long been read as the card that belongs to no stage at all: the blank page before something starts, or a fresh start after a full reset.
The Fool reversed meaning
Reversed, freedom tips into carelessness. Plans made on impulse do not last, or you cannot tell where you are headed. Moving is not the problem; decide what you are taking with you before you go.
The Fool in love and feelings
Upright
A love that ignores the usual rules. You can get close to someone you have just met, and age or status does not get in the way. With a crush, say hello without overthinking it and things start to move.
Reversed
A love that will not settle. One of you is avoiding taking it seriously, or cannot stay in one place. If it stays light for too long, someone gets tired.
In the place of their feelings
They enjoy their time with you and feel at ease around you. This card often means they have not started thinking about the future yet.
The Fool for career and money
Upright
Good for new work or a field you have never tried. If you are thinking of changing jobs or going it alone, starting before everything is ready shows you the way.
Reversed
Watch for job changes with no plan behind them, or moving on out of boredom. Impulse spending also rises.
The Fool as a future card
As a future card, the Fool is a start you did not plan. A year out, you may be somewhere or with people you cannot picture yet.
